The Renewable Energy Directive II (RED II) is a key EU policy, aimed at promoting the use of renewable energy. Under RED II, electric vehicles (EVs) play an important role in reducing the carbon footprint in road transport, as electricity used in EVs is counted towards renewable energy targets.

The latest update to the EU’s framework, the RED III, includes stricter obligations for EU member states to adopt this system. Each European country must implement systems that support a 42.5% renewable energy target in 2030.

Why EV Tickets

The directive encourages the adoption of EVs by:

  • Allowing electricity used for EV charging to be credited towards a country’s renewable energy quota.
  • Promoting the development of charging infrastructure.
  • Supporting energy-efficient and low-carbon solutions in transport.
