International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC)
A International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC) is the internationally-used standard to certify the renewable origin of electricity. The I-REC market spans across Asia, Oceania, Africa, South America and Middle America, being used in more than 45 countries.
Each certificate contains information such as production date, location, technology, commissioning date and installed capacity of the power plant. This ensures the authenticity and reliability of renewable energy sources. The green electricity registry follows similar rules as Guarantees of Origin (GoO) in Europe or Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) in North America.
Like those standards, one I-REC guarantee the origin of one MWh of green electricity injected into the grid.
