ABOUT THE TEAM

We are looking for a commercially driven Sales Trader to join our Southern European team and further develop STX’s environmental commodities business across the Iberian region. 

The role will provide exposure to a broad range of environmental commodity markets, including Guarantees of Origin (GOs), Energy Efficiency Certificates (CAEs/CEEs), renewable gas certificates, I-RECs, carbon markets and other emerging environmental products. The exact product mix could evolve depending on market developments, client needs, and commercial opportunities. 

This is a front-office role for someone who wants to build business, not simply execute transactions or manage accounts. You will take commercial ownership of an existing portfolio of predominantly wholesale counterparties across Spain and Portugal, while actively developing new business. 

Success in this role means developing strategic client relationships, identifying new commercial opportunities, and increasing STX’s share of wallet across products and markets. We are looking for someone who sees this as a long-term growth opportunity and is motivated by building expertise, influence, and commercial impact over time. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Take commercial ownership of a portfolio of wholesale clients across Iberia, building strong and durable relationships with key counterparties, operating on a high degree of autonomy 
• Grow sales margin by increasing STX’s share of wallet and creating new commercial opportunities by identifying and developing the highest-value opportunities within your portfolio and deepening relationships. 
• Originate, negotiate, and execute transactions ranging from secondary-market trades to more structured commercial solutions. 
• Stay close to market and regulatory developments and translate them into relevant insights and actionable commercial opportunities. 
• Act as a trusted source of market intelligence for clients, adding value beyond pricing and individual transactions. 
• Work closely with trading, analysis, origination and sales colleagues across STX, actively sharing information and connecting expertise to unlock opportunities. 

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• A genuine sales mindset gained through proven experience within environmental commodities, energy markets, or other commercial, regulatory-driven industry. 
• Good understanding of environmental and energy markets, with the curiosity and analytical ability to connect regulations, market and fundamentals with client needs and commercial opportunities. 
• A strong sense of commercial ownership and the ability to think beyond the next trade, identifying where client relationships can be deepened, diversified or developed into larger opportunities. 
• You enjoy developing relationships, negotiating, winning business, and delivering measurable commercial results. 
• Takes ownership and operates independently, without requiring significant day-to-day direction, comfortable approaching new counter parties proactively. 
• Can connect information, identify opportunities and think beyond the next transaction. 
• Combines ambition with humility, resilience, and a willingness to learn and be able to assert themselves in commercial situations, while capable of listening, adapting and building trust. 
• Fluency in Spanish and English. Portuguese is highly preferred; French or Italian are strong advantages. 
• Is based in or willing to relocate to Madrid.
